Brons concept work and Claires poster

Here are a few bits I've done for Bron and Claire.
For Claire I worked on making a poster. I did have trouble at first getting the hang of it (I've never made a poster before) but I managed in the end. One version has larger font and is in red.

For Bron, I did a bit of concept art for her. Mainly messing around with what I could do with a guinea pig! I also did 6 hours of inbetweening for Brons animation.

Editing of film

Nat will be the head editor of the film as she feels she has a flair for it, which I agree! I'm not a very techy person at all so am happy for her to take on anything like this. She will be doing most of the compossiting on Shake then the final cut will be edited on...Final Cut!!
As the film has evolved, certain shots don't mean as much as they used to. We have decided to cut out two scenes. The first is one animated by Bron, which we all loved, was the low angle running shot. It just it didn't read well in the story anymore and stood out too much. The second was reluctenly cut by me. I was a huge fan of the extreme wide shot of Sarafina and the emos first encounter, but like the run, didn't make any sence to keep in anymore.

Problems

Due to extreme business and blogspot not working for a while, there haven't been any updates on here for a while...I've found it extremely hard to keep up with a blog, having never had one before I find it hard to either find the time or remember to update it.

So far the project is going smoothly. Not as many hicups as I thought. We're now on the last 3 weeks so it's now 100% editing time.

Group work...Hmmmm, now this is a toughy. It's been next to impossible to find work for this...So far I've done a bit of concept for David, Ash and Nik, about 5 seconds of animation for Broni and in the process of making a poster for Claire. I've not had the chance to put anything up on my blog yet, need to scan everything in and stick it up when I have the chance!! Again, it's all about finding the time and then making the effect to update this...

Anyway, I WILL be sticking everything up this week, honest. I've got my dissertation hand in in a week so my head is spinning exorist style at the moment...

Dave defering a year

Unfortunatly Dave, who's project I was woking on, has dropped back a year due to personal reasons. This is an unfortunate for me as I was going to be using all my hours on his project. So far I have done roughly 25 hours for him. In this time I have been working on concept work, help with his stories (discussions, spider diagrams of events, characters etc) and help on his storyboard.
It is a shame that this has happened as I was really looking forward to animating on his project.
I will now be trying to up my hours on others projects.

Here is a new version of the animatic with a new beginning sequence. We changed the start because we didn't feel it read well or make as much sense. It will now be animated all on maya then rotoscoped by me on photoshop.

We have added in a few of the line tests so far as well as some pastel tests. at the very end.

I did some concept work on Ashley and Niks project "The Lone Eskimo". I mainly concentrated on ice landscapes.

Here are our final story boards. It's taken a while for me to get them finished as it keeps getting changed! I expect it to change further, but these will only be very minor changes such as re shuffling of shots and deleteing shots as well. (I can't seem to fix the lay out of these links...it's all gone to pot!!)

Here is all the concept work I have done for Sarafina's bubble to date.
I have been using a wacom tablet straight inot photoshop. Some are quick sketches, others are rejects. There are a few colour ones as well. I much prefer the quality of these pictures. As much as I love using pastals, photoshop is less messy! I used images from fashion magazines to draw the IT Girls here, and a mirror using myself as a model for one (though I changed the shape of the girl as I'm not skinny!!!)

Pastal concept and film update

Eeeek, Not updated for quite some time. This blog thing is all new to me and I keep forgetting I have one! Well, better late than never people always tell me...

Ok, so in the last few months we've changed alot of stuff...So here is a quick low down of what's happened....

Animatic finished. Nat has loaded it up onto her page so I don't see much point in doing the same, so just go to the linky and have a look see.
I've done more concept work, I'm putting most of it up now, the rest will be put up bit by bit. I'm continuing concept work throughout the project.
I've also been doing some concept work for Nik and Ashleys film. They will be posted up shortly.

I've started animating, and although I've fallen a little behind because of colds, and Degree Show stuff, I'm still confident that I'll get it all finished.

Each week I'll be posting bits of my test animations so you can see how it's progressing.

I'll keep uploading concept work during the week.

More steeple Jack concept

Daves film now has more of a story with some ugly chicks as characters. I've done a piece to try and get the feel of some really ugly chicks to help with his character designs. Also, he has added in a scene with lightning, so I have done some lightning concepts for him.

New Animatic

Here is the new version of the animatic. A lot of the scenes and shots have been changed as they didn't read well anymore. The story has also been slightly changed, now with the pastal scene at the end where Sarafina runs through the barley fields.

Dave will be animating the train maya scene at the very beginning, Nat will be animating Sarafina and I will be animating the IT girls, Money Grabers and Emo. I will also be animating the pastals (direct manipulation animation) and the building, animated in Maya.

I will be doing most of my group work on Daves project. His film is based on the life of the famous yorkshire Steeple Jack Fred Dibnah.
I've started off by doing some initional concept work of steeples and Fred. On Photoshop as I am wanting to learn to use photoshop properly.

Unfortunately due to internet problems in my flat, I've been unable to post for a while, also I've been ill with a bad cold and unable to work much.
Today myself and Nat had a meeting to discuss our timetabling. We have agreed on a timetable that we will stick to for this term. Also we have given each other deadlines to keep to to keep us on track.
Tomorrow we are going to start with this new schedule.

Monday-Friday:
10-1pm main project work
1-2pm Lunch
2-4pm main project work
4-8pm Dissertation/ Own time
8-8:15pm Project meeting

Saturday:
12-1pm Lunch
1:30-5pm main project work

The timetable will change if needed but this is the rough outline of our week.

This will change as time goes on as the work increases. It will be roughly the same, just extra hours during the day.

Problems

Since Nat left to go home due to family matters, I have been working on more concept work. We both agreed that with her away, I should keep up with the work and communicate via email and phone. Also, with myself going away for a week this Monday, I am doing as much concept work as possible.

idea sketches

Today I have been working on some concept work for the character The Money Grabber. I've started with the male character first using Nat's original sketches.
I have tried to stick to Nat's first sketches, but also adding my own style to them. To start with, I'm going to be drawing the character in detail, to get a feel of what he might look like, then once I'm comfortable with what he looks like, I will start to simplify him to fit with the style Nat wants.
Myself and Nat got together for a talk. While I was working on my concepts, Nat wrote up the treatment and then consulted me to make sure she had put everything in.
Not hit any problems with Nat, all is running smoothly.

It begins...

After pitching a few ideas to Sean in class yesterday (27/09/07), both me and Natasha have decided it would be best to work together. Sean liked both mine and Nat's ideas and suggested that we merge two of them together. Today, we have been discussing how do do this successfully, organizing our time and discussing concept art work.
Because the bulk of our idea is mostly Nat's, we both think it's best if she directs the film. I'm happy with this because I think that Nat will do the job much better than I can!
This week I will be working on some basic concept work.
